Eric Waltmire is a patent attorney at Erickson Law Group. His practice focuses on intellectual property and technology matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and technology contracting. He assists clients in developing and implementing intellectual property protection strategies, understanding the scope of intellectual property rights, and navigating intellectual property risk.
His litigation practice includes representing clients in patent, trademark, and copyright infringement matters in court. He represents clients in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Eric’s patent prosecution practice includes drafting and prosecuting utility patent applications across a range of subject areas, including computer science, electrical engineering, medical devices, mechanical engineering, and consumer products. He also drafts and prosecutes design patent applications. In addition, he provides patent novelty, freedom-to-operate, and non-infringement opinions. He supervises foreign patent filings and works with foreign associates on foreign patent prosecution and protection.
Eric’s trademark practice includes counseling clients on brand protection strategies, trademark infringement risk, and anti-counterfeiting measures. He files and prosecutes trademark applications and supervises foreign trademark filings, prosecution, and maintenance.
He drafts and negotiates policies, service terms, licenses, and contracts involving technology and intellectual property, including matters related to SaaS, e-commerce, the Internet, and computer science. He also advises companies and corporate counsel on intellectual property matters in connection with mergers and acquisitions.
Eric also advises on copyright scope and protection for a range of creative works. He assists clients in pursuing copyright registrations and in copyright enforcement and defense matters.

Before joining the Erickson Law Group, he clerked for the judges of the Eighteenth Circuit Court of Illinois. During law school, he clerked at a civil litigation firm and at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
